Hope this works! I thought a good way to introduce myself a bit more would be to show some of the work I've done over the last few months. These are all silver clay pieces with beads etc, but I do work with sterling too so I'll try to get some photos of those too. I'd love to hear any constructive feedback from everyone :)
Thanks, Sharon |

They are lovely Sharon! Metal Clay is soo fab!!
I'm a Metal clayer too! I've just had a nosey at your website and we make very similar things. In fact one of my best sellers at craft shows are the heart earrings you have on your site, though I put Swarovski Crystals with mine. Great minds!! Oh and so pleased to see good prices on your pieces, so many people under price themselves

Thanks Sian. Nice to meet a kindred spirit! I do love silver clay and lose track of time when I'm working on it!
I hate working out prices, but thought if I made them too cheap that might actually backfire - and some things do take ages to make! I'm only just setting up so haven't organised any craft fairs yet - so much to do and I'm not sure where to start! |

Me too Sharon, I could PMC all day every day and not do any of the other things my business requires!! unfortunately running a jewellery business is 60% admin/marketing/photography/shows etc and about 40% making! I didn't know it was going to be that way before I started, it's the making I love.

Hi Tazbo....I've only ever fired my silver clay with a torch...yes it's the type you would use for creme brulee and other foody stuff.
As I was a little scared of the heat/fire factor at first, I looked into safest options. I now use a soldering mat (it's about 12x12 inches bought from a hardware store), on top of this I place a 'firing block' which I bought from Cooksons I think (can't remember what they're made of but it's white!) and then on top of that I place a small steel mesh tray to actually place the silver piece on.
You should probably refer to professional instructions for the next stage, but firing times are down to how big your piece of silver is, and how thick or thin etc. It didn't take me long to get the hang of it....and before I knew it I had a huge supply of random silver shapes that I am still trying to work out the best thing to do with
Hope that's of some help!
F.x.
