General Jewellery Discussion : how to organise your beads etc?

    Author: loislocket
Subject: how to organise your beads etc?
Posted: 17 May 2012 at 5:19pm

Hi there!
I suspect this is the question that everyone thinks they have the answer to but no method is ever 100% successful. It really depends how you like to work. I keep mine in their plastic bags in boxes which stack and are labelled. I have headings like 'acrylic', 'pearl', 'chain', 'wood' etc. I also keep one called 'ordinary findings' for the day to day headpins, jump rings etc and 'non-standard findings' for the rest. I keep tools in two of those boxes designed for DIYers. I tend to get out all the items I need for a project and put them in an empty translucent bead box which I can then take everywhere with me. I have a few of these empties so I can have more than one project on the go. I label the little bags with the type and supplier, so I can order more when I run out.
This works for me but I know a lot of people prefer to organise by colour. I just find I don't do a lot of monochrome stuff so I'd still have to get out all I want beforehand.
I think the real trick is not to buy too much and make it up into jewellery as soon as it comes into the house. I've never managed to achieve that though - so good luck with that one!
Let us know how you get on,
LL
