Season style

Our fashion experts Heather Gregory and Jennifer Burgess, have collaborated on our Christmas issue to give you the top four clothing, make-up and jewellery styles for the festive season

The nights are drawing in and the winter solstice is on the door step, but on the brighter side, the festive Christmas season brings twinkling lights, colourful decorations and many occasions to celebrate. Whether your diary is filling up with office parties, family affairs or social events with old friends; this is the season for glam dressing, rich colours and a new outfit. Here are some of our key choices for the festive season.

Holly berry

Reminiscent of a Christmas wreath, this trend carries rich and warm tones of ivy greens, berry reds and antiqued golds/silvers. Inspired by our holly berry ring on page 47, this outfit can work for both the classic and dramatic woman who is in the festive spirit.

Fabrics are warm, heavy and fitted; materials such as tweed and velvet, and ribbon details give a cosy and traditional feel to the outfit.

Celtic inspired jewellery designs add a classic element, especially when embedded with semi-precious materials such as agates, amethysts, garnets and fresh water pearls.

Make up should complement or match the deep and vibrant colours of the outfit. Enhance the eyes with smokey shades and add a gloss to your lips for evening glamour.

Ice queen

The ice queen inspired outfit features cool tones of ivory, oyster and silver, which are a great contrast to the darker shades available in a winter wardrobe. Textiles are romantic and radiant - mix luminous silks or fine cottons with translucent materials of lace, organza and embroidery to ensure your outfit lights up the dark.

Make up takes on a fresh, Scandinavian feel – this can be achieved by making cheeks and lips rosy, placing luminescent highlighter on the cheek and brow bones and keeping eye make up to a minimum with a touch of mascara and eye liner.

Jewellery elements are ice like and reflect light, materials such as crystals, diamonds, big gems, pearls, lashings of polished silver and platinum are a must. Lesley Messam’s snowflake pendant on page 8 would go perfectly with this outfit.

Hollywood glam

The party season is upon us and there is no better time to indulge in a little Hollywood glamour! Spoil yourself and mix luxurious fabrics with sparkling accessories for a really vintage Hollywood look. Invest in a killer dress that best suits your body shape; 1920s style flapper dresses look elegant on boyish figures while 50s pencil dresses skim over curves. This trend is all about glamorous finishing touches so don’t hold back on the jewellery, think ultra glam and drip with diamonds or crystals choosing one or two statement pieces.

Keep warm on cold winter nights with a faux fur coat and add extra glamour with sky high stilettos and a shimmering clutch bag.

Make a statement with your make up, lashings of mascara and red lips exude old school Hollywood glamour. Accessorise with a glass of champagne and you’re ready to go! JB

Chic and cosy

Christmas isn’t just about getting glammed up and going out, this cosy look will keep you warm yet stylish for late night shopping or lazy Sunday walks. As the temperature drops, cosy knits and layering are key. Look for light weight knits that can be layered over long vests and keep toes warm in fur lined boots. Neutral tones of grey, cream and brown are ideal for this trend and warmth can be added with touches of red or pink. Wrap up in an oversized knitted scarf and finish the look with a chic beret. Jewellery in muted gold or copper tones with a traditional feel works well with this style, choose pieces with interesting cut out details or embellishments.

Minimal make up is required for daytime chic, keep it natural and pretty with a touch of blusher and a slick of lip gloss.
