Love heart necklace

Add some sparkle to your jewellery with crystals and pearls from the Bead Shop Scotland

This stunning necklace is so quick and simple to make and will add a touch of sparkle to any girl’s Valentine’s Day. This is a simple bead weave style necklace with plenty of glamour.

Designer Tips

  • To add even more sparkle try substituting seed beads with 3mm crystals
  • For a softer look use pearls instead of sparkly rounds
  • Keep adjusting your beads sections as you go to make sure spacing remains the same throughout necklace

MATERIALS

All crystals used are CRYSTALLIZED ™ – Swarovski Elements
  • 3 x 63.5cm lengths of 0.18 clear Flexrite beading wire
  • 19 x 8mm sparkly rounds beads
  • 18 x 6mm siam crystals
  • 2 x 4mm siam crystals
  • 19 x 4 mm haematite crystals
  • 1 pack of black opaque twisted hex seed beads
  • 1 silver plated puffy heart bead
  • 1 x 3 inch head pin
  • 2 calottes
  • 2 jumprings
  • 1 lobster clasp
  • 1 extension chain
  • 6 crimps - Chain nose pliers
  • Round nose pliers
  • Wire cutters

Step 1

Cut three 63.5cm lengths of beading wire. Thread one calotte onto all three strands and using chain nose pliers, flatten a crimp onto the end of each separate strand of wire. Trim wire with wire cutters and then close your calotte over the 3 flattened crimps. Use the round nose pliers to turn the hook of the calotte into a complete circle.

Step 2

Onto each wire add the following by simply threading on the beads in this order: one 8mm sparkly round on the outside wire, and then one 4mm haematite crystal on the next wire and then two black opaque hex beads on the third wire to complete your first section.

Step 3

Take all 3 wires and thread them through the 6mm Siam crystal and then add another 8mm sparkly round on the opposite side. Thread a 4mm haematite crystal on the next wire and then two black opaque hex beads on the third wire. Repeat this step until your necklace is 43.2cm long. You can move your beads until you are happy with their spacing.

Step 4

Thread a calotte onto the 3 wires and then thread a crimp onto the end of each strand of wire. Once you are happy with the spacing at the end of the necklace, flatten the crimps with chain nose pliers and close the calotte and curl as in Step 1.

Step 5

Open a jumpring using chain nose pliers and place through the loop of the calotte. Attach the lobster clasp to the jumpring and close securely. Repeat for the other end of the necklace, adding the extension chain to allow the wearer to adjust the length as required instead of the lobster clasp.

Step 6

Onto a 3 inch head pin; place a 4mm Siam crystal, the silver plated heart bead and a 4mm Siam crystal. Use the round nose pliers to grip the pin just above the last bead and bend wire over 90 degrees. Before you close the loop, attach the heart bead to the centre of the necklace. Now use the round nose pliers to form a secure wrapped loop, trimming the excess wire close to the bead for a neat finish.
